Folio 06 / Life skills

The half of ArcheAge that is not combat, and the half the demo did not include

Housing, crafting and trade are all confirmed as returning. None of them were in the Steam Next Fest build, and the studio said so plainly in the demo announcement. That distinction is worth holding onto, because most of the search traffic around these systems assumes they are playable now.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Some life content, including housing and trade, will not be available in this demo.

Housing

RETURNING, NOT IN THE DEMO

The vision diary says the housing system lets players extensively customise their homes. The demo announcement states plainly that some life content, including housing and trade, is not available in the Next Fest build.

Crafting

RETURNING, TIED TO CHARACTER GROWTH

Crafting is described as playing a crucial role in character growth, and the producer letter adds that it is tied into the player economy in real ways rather than being a side activity.

Trade

RETURNING, WITH RISK ATTACHED

Trade supplies the materials crafting needs. Familiar mechanisms return, including wagons, carts and trade goods sold in different regions, but the studio says trade runs are being revived with risk and reward: the higher the stakes of the journey, the more likely a PvP encounter becomes.

Trade in ArcheAge Chronicles

Folio 06.4 / Why trade matters here

Trade is where the PvP design pays off

The vision diary describes keeping the familiar trade mechanisms: wagons, carts, and trade goods sold in different regions. Then it adds the twist. Trade runs are being revived with risk and reward, and the higher the stakes of the journey, the more likely a PvP encounter becomes.

Read together with the channel system, the shape becomes clear. A trade run is the one activity where choosing a PvP channel is not just a preference but a calculated gamble: faster or richer route, more people who can take it from you. That is the original ArcheAge tension, rebuilt on a channel switch instead of an open-world flag.

No trade good values, route lengths or profit tables are published. The studio explicitly labels the trade-post and guild-contest ideas as early planning rather than promises.

Folio 06.55 / Two details the summary tables miss

Shared houses, and a trade run that is not a straight line

The 2024 vision diary carries two specifics that are easy to lose behind the word “housing”. The first is that you can meet housemates and share a living space with them, personalising it together rather than owning a plot alone. Housing is framed as a social system as much as a building one, and the customisation is described as extensive, not cosmetic.

The second concerns transport. Wagons, carts and regional selling return, but the diary says new variables will be designed into the transportation process itself to make the journey more engaging. That is a design statement rather than a mechanic, and it is the one sentence that suggests hauling goods will involve decisions the original game did not ask for. What those variables are has not been published, and the demo did not include trade, so nothing here can be described in practice.

Both items belong to the same promise: trade is not just an economic exchange but a part of the journey through the world. Read alongside the PvP page, where risk rises with the stakes of a run, the intent is coherent. The numbers, the variables and the housemate rules are all still missing.

No transport variable, housemate limit, plot count or shared-ownership rule has been published. Housing and trade were both absent from the October 2026 demo, so none of this has been observed in play.

Folio 06.6 / Reading this honestly

Why there are no house layouts on this page

Because nobody has seen one. Housing was not in the network test in September, it was not in the Next Fest demo in October, and the studio has published no floor plans, plot sizes, placement rules or furniture counts. Anything presented as a layout guide today would be invented.

The same applies to crafting recipes and trade values. What is on record is the intent: crafting should matter to character growth and to the player economy in real ways rather than being a side activity, and trade should be the mechanism that supplies crafting materials. Those are design statements, not numbers, and this page keeps them at that level.

When Early Access opens these systems, this is the page that will get the real tables. Until then the useful thing to know is which claims are grounded and which are someone extrapolating from the 2020 original.
